Orthotic Insoles

Why use orthotic insoles?

Feet play a wondrous role in our lives. No wonder Leonardo da Vinci described the human foot as a masterpiece of engineering. Those two relatively small feet maintain balance for our whole body - quite a top heavy structure – and allow us to walk, run, dance and move whilst maintaining that balance.

With 26 bones and 100 muscles, ligaments and tendons in each one, feet allow us;

  • To maintain stable balance.
  • To move unconsciously.
  • To absorb shock to the body.

When feet don’t function well, other body parts have to adapt to compensate. Before long, knock-on problems develop, including:

  • Painful joints, such as knees and hips
  • Lower back pain,
  • Shoulder issues
  • Headaches or neck pain
  • Low energy

Orthotic insoles for shoes can correct the function of feet and help many foot and joint related conditions. When you consider the curved shape of the foot and understand how movement is transmitted through the ankles and legs, it seems amazing that we still make shoes with flat soles rather than contours!

In our osteopathic practice

We use state of the art pressure plate and gait analysis software systems to analyse exactly where joints and feet have problems. And we’ve seen that our Feet Mechanics orthotic insoles can help make a real difference to people experiencing a huge range of conditions.

These conditions include – but are not limited to –

  • Pain in the ball or arch of the foot
  • Collapsed or high arches
  • Arthritis pain and inflammation in foot
  • Blisters, bone spurs, corns, bunions and calluses
  • Hammer toes and mallet toes
  • Heel pain or spurs
  • Ankle pain or instability
  • Achilles tendonitis, Patella tendonitis and Plantar fasciitis
  • Knee pain and Runner’s knee
  • Discrepancy in leg length
  • Pain in hips, back and neck
  • Recovery from athletic injury and broken bones

“As an osteopathic clinician, I treat many different causes of pain. Over time, I’ve seen and learned how often our feet can be responsible for our suffering.
We may appear to be fine and apparently in no need of foot support, but a large and growing number of people are finding that when they integrate supports into their shoes and sandals, they find relief from a multitude of aches and pains.

“Supportive insoles may not provide a quick fix, but they do offer gradually effective and quite inexpensive long term relief. Often, this simple measure proves the solution for foot, ankle, knee, hip, back and even neck pain.

“Over the years I’ve had a lot of experience sourcing and selecting insoles to suit each individual’s needs. Now I’m delighted to present the culmination of that long journey – our Feet Mechanics own range of top quality bespoke foot care for your individual comfort and better health.”
